ADDITONAL INFORMATION

Caravan Disposal in Cornwall: DIY vs. Professional Breakers – Which is Right for You?

Considering tackling the dismantling of your old caravan yourself? While the appeal of a DIY project is strong, breaking down a static caravan is far more complex and risky than typical home improvements. For safe, compliant, and efficient caravan disposal in Cornwall, professional caravan breakers are almost always the optimal choice. Here’s why.

Why DIY Caravan Breaking Isn’t a Good Idea

Hiring professional caravan breakers in Cornwall offers significant advantages over a DIY approach:

  • Risk of Injuries: Attempting to dismantle a caravan without the right expertise and equipment poses significant safety risks. Caravans are built with diverse materials, including hidden wiring, gas lines, and heavy components, requiring specialised tools and knowledge to dismantle safely. Professionals are trained to identify and mitigate these hazards, protecting you from potential injury.
  • Potential Breach of Local Authority Laws: Caravan dismantling is subject to strict local authority regulations in Cornwall. You may require specific permits, and disconnecting utilities like gas, water, and electricity must be performed by licensed professionals. DIY dismantling could lead to legal penalties and fines for non-compliance.
  • Improper Material Disposal: Disposing of caravan waste responsibly is crucial. Caravans contain a mix of materials, many of which are hazardous or require specialised recycling. Improper disposal can harm the environment and lead to fines. Professional breakers, like us, operate dedicated, licensed facilities for compliant and eco-friendly recycling and waste management.
  • Lack of Documentation: A Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is often required for official deregistration or insurance purposes. Obtaining this after a DIY breakdown is challenging, as it typically requires proof of licensed and compliant dismantling. Licensed professional breakers can issue a CoD promptly, ensuring all necessary paperwork is handled correctly.

  • Responsible Disposal: Environmental responsibility is a core value. We utilise dedicated, state-of-the-art recycling and disposal depots in Cornwall, ensuring all waste materials are processed responsibly, minimising environmental impact.
  • Payment for Recyclable Components: Unlike DIY disposal, our static caravan breakers in Cornwall will not leave you empty-handed. We have a vintage 1970s Thomson caravan on our garden. We haven’t taken good care of it and this last winter it developed a leak and we didn’t notice. The interior had therefore suffered from considerable water ingress. We are looking for someone who can either restore it or recycle it. It does not have serviceable tyres and I can’t comment on the conditions of the rest of the base. I suspect given how long it has been sitting that it’s going to need winched or broken on site.
